Should Or Must?

These soul stirring words are what I came across today...

...as I began to explain to myself the story of why I chose to quite a corporate job to choose a less ordinary but immensely fulfilling life. I can't say it all happened at one go, or that it was a rosy road that felt fulfilling every day.

But everything I am today has transpired from the choices I began to make when I kept feeling 'called' in the midst of my busy mind stimulating work in some of the world's most technologically advanced companies. It was a knock on the door of my heart, calling me to go explore what I am really about. I happily misinterpreted though! I believed that joining an NGO, doing something meaningful like being of help to orphaned children would do it for me. But that was obviously not it because I got over that within weeks!

Alas! The soul searching had just begun. Through a series of what I call the very intense dark nights of the soul where I questioned why I existed, what meaning my life had and what if anything would I regret not doing if I wasn't alive anymore I began to piece together bit by bit the purpose of my existence.

By choosing what I must do over and over again, slipping into the 'shoulds' of my life, and coming back and connecting again with what I 'must' do, I have come to a place of deep understanding of my place on this earth. My sweet little existence that has a meaning!

And today I know this about myself -

- I am here on this planet not by accident (even if my mom and dad initially thought I was a mistake!) but because there is a meaning to my existence. It is not by chance that I was born, but out of the miracle of having made it here <3

- My deepest desire is to find and stick to my values of freedom, love, creativity and learning(these may change over time but these are what feel true to me right now). And I choose to follow these no matter what. If something I am doing or someone in my life isn't able to honour these values then I distance myself from them. My values are supremely important to my existence and definitely non-negotiable.

- I have a deep curiosity about the musings of the heart and how every day people like you and me can find ways to listen to them and align ourselves with it. In essence, I love to learn and teach about how we can follow our inner guidance.

- And here's something else I know which has been beautifully put into words by Elle Luna

And here are those soul stirring words, from Elle Luna, I hope they inspire you to be more of who you are!

"Those who choose must.

When who we are and what we do are one and the same, we are walking the road of Must. When we choose Must, what we create is ourselves. It is a body of work. When we make something because we Must, not just because we can, it is the difference between disposable products that last a few years and life-affirming movements that sustain generations."
